Week 49 The velocity of vision

My grandfather came to the us as a young man from Haiti . My father was a young boy at the time. My dad would grow up here and as he reached the age the accountability , defy the wishes of the my grandfather to go to California to pursue not medicine , but fashion. You see, for many immigrant families , the vision of success in the context of career is : law , medicine or finance . These career paths in the eyes of my grandfather provide prestige , stability and wealth . Amongst other options in the US , this would not be an incorrect assertion . Matter of fact, it would seem to be a logical decison given turmoil that was left on the shores of port au prince. It is a vision that makes complete sense: come to the land where hard work will meets opportunity and stability.

My Father too saw the same mathematics of meritocracy in his own mind , but the numbers were different and his vison painted a diffent sum. His time in california would turn into a life here. My dad met my mom in Long Beach while attending fashion school and the rest was history . Together they would tackle and achive the dream of starting a fashion line , Peaux sur Peaux.

Fast forward more than 30 years later and the vision takes on a new incarnation…. Beignet Spot . It’s always on my mind that the journey that took place before me and what small part I play in this current iteration of pursuit. Beignet spot is an interesting chapter in my personal pursuit in business and enterprise . For me this feels like a launching pad . In our expansion of the brand and company , i have a strong feeling that my role and task have been shaped by the trials and journey before . I’m labeling this season fruition. For my parents , this season of building I would label” harvest “. My mom desires to settling into the idea of being a grandmother and my dad I would say is coming around to the idea of a pivot .

This velocity , this speed in a given direction is landing one plane and beginning the long awaited ascent of another in my career and purpose .
